LACOMBE, La. — On Thursday, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Caleb Gasery, 17, in a fatal shooting investigation that began last week.
According to the STPSO, Gasery, who will be 18 on October 27, allegedly shot and killed Jason Sumner, who was found wounded outside a residence in the 26000 block of East Jackson Street near Lacombe at approximately 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Deputies said they tried to save the man's life, but he unfortunately died on the scene.
Gasery was arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center for one count of Second-Degree Murder.
“I want to thank the hard-working men and women of our Major Crimes Unit who have worked around the clock to identify and arrest the individual responsible for this crime,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “This arrest helps to bring some closure to the Sumner family and the Lacombe community.”
