16-year-old OJJ escapee arrested in Georgia, NOPD says

Jefferson was initially arrested on Dec. 11 for allegedly threatening a woman with a gun in the 14500 block of Duane Road in New Orleans East.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A teenager who escaped the Louisiana State Office of Juvenile Justice in December was captured by the U.S. Marshals in DeKalb County, Ga., by the U.S. Marshals on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

16-year-old Kai Jefferson was arrested on an outstanding NOPD warrant for three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and for one count of simple criminal damage to property. 

Jefferson was initially arrested on Dec. 11 for allegedly threatening a woman with a gun in the 14500 block of Duane Road in New Orleans East.

At the time, the NOPD said the victim claimed that Jefferson allegedly threatened her with a firearm on several other occasions as well.

The NOPD said the arrest was made with informational assistance provided by the NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals New Orleans Office.
