Friday night parades in New Orleans move up; Saturday parades juggled too

All parades will start at their normal starting location, and assignments will remain the same, according to NOPD.

NEW ORLEANS — Paradegoers hoping to catch uptown parades on Friday and Saturday will have to get to the routes earlier. Oshun, Cleopatra and Alla have each moved up their start times by 30 minutes, according to the NOPD.

Friday night's parade switches aren't due to Friday night's weather, which is expected to be nearly perfect, but rather to Saturday's weather, which is causing parades that day to roll several hours earlier, presumably to give police and sanitation enough time between Friday's parades and Saturday's.

Friday night parade schedule.

The New Orleans Police Department says the following parades are scheduled to start earlier Saturday due to bad weather forecasted in the area at around 5 pm:

  • Pontchartrain will begin at 9:30 a.m.
  • Legion of Mars will follow at 10:30 a.m. or earlier
  • Choctaw will follow at approximately 11:30 a.m. or earlier
  • Freret will follow at approximately 12:30 p.m. or earlier
  • The Spartan Society will follow at approximately 1 p.m.

All parades will start at their normal starting location, and assignments will remain the same, according to NOPD. All parades are cutting down on marching elements with Sparta rolling with floats only.

Krewe of Pygmalion has been rescheduled to roll on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 10:00 am.  Their starting location is changed to Napoleon / Magazine and they will roll with floats only.

Krewe of Tchefuncte Boat Parade has been rescheduled to roll on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.

All other Sunday parades will roll at their scheduled time.
