Neuty Gras! Local star nutria to roll in Krewe of Argus

The parade will roll on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Veterans and Houma Boulevards.

METAIRIE, La. — The Krewe of Argus has announced Neuty the Nutria as its Parade Marshal this Carnival season.

They Krewe of Argus said it is happy to have Neuty the Nutria, "Mayor of Metairie" be a part of its parade.

Neuty was pardoned in October last year by Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser after his owners, the Lacoste family were granted permission to keep the nutria under certain conditions by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF).

Neuty gained fame from a WWL Louisiana report that highlighted the unusual pet that spent its days at the family business and its nights swimming in the backyard pool.

Now, the nutria is ready to bring smiles to all parade-goers on Mardi Gras day. Nuety was born three years ago on West Esplanade Canal and has become a viral sensation for Louisianans.

The Krewe of Argus is a parade in Metairie featuring over 450 men, women and children riders.

The parade will roll on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Veterans and Houma Boulevards.
