NEW ORLEANS — Tulane University announced on Tuesday that both Ben Weiner Director of Athletics Chair David Harris and head football coach Jon Sumrall have been selected to ride as honorary marshals in Saturday’s Krewe of Freret Parade by Captain Bobby Hjorstberg.
Harris was named the Green Wave’s new AD in November while Sumrall was hired to replace Willie Fritz the following month.
The parade will start Uptown at the intersection of Napoleon Avenue and Tchoupitoulas Street, next to Tipitina’s.
The Krewe of Freret will follow St. Charles all the way to Harmony Circle, marking the entrance to the Central Business District (CBD), continuing up St. Charles. A brief stop at Gallier Hall marks the spot where a toast will be presented to the Mayor of New Orleans, a Mardi Gras tradition, before proceeding toward Canal Street.
At Canal, the parade reaches the world-famous French Quarter. It will then turn south on Canal and past Bourbon Street, continuing toward the Mississippi. The homestretch turn comes at the intersection with Tchoupitoulas and the parade comes to a conclusion as it passes through Krewe of Freret’s Shorty Gras Concert.
Barry Kern of Kern Studios and Mardi Gras World told Tulane that Freret’s selection of Harris and Sumrall continues its mission of honoring those who bring positive impact to our community.
