Police have arrested three men in connection with two high-profile homicide cases, including a deadly shooting at a second-line parade in the St. Roch neighborhood and a separate double homicide in West Lake Forest.
Curtis Gray, 19, was booked on two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Rasean "Turtle" Carter, 21, and Malachi "Pumpkin" Jackson, 19, during the 26th annual Nine Times Social Aid & Pleasure Club second line parade on Nov. 17
Police say Gray shot Carter and Jackson, both from Marrero, and an unidentified man as the parade crossed the Almonaster Bridge.
The violence followed another shooting 45 minutes earlier in the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue, where eight people were shot.
In a separate case, Cornelius Tillman IV and Darrell Fairley were arrested in connection with a double homicide on Nov. 30 in the 6700 block of Tara Lane.
According to police, Wayne Eric Orsin, 18, and Rashada Richardson, 31, were found outside an apartment complex in the West Lake Forest neighborhood suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced both victims dead at the scene.
New Orleans police worked alongside Louisiana State Police and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office to secure the arrests, including executing a search warrant Friday morning. Sheriff Joe Lopinto confirmed that Gray was taken into custody in Jefferson Parish without incident.
New Orleans experienced a violent start to the month of December, with eight separate shootings over the weekend. The incidents left three men and a 3-year-old boy dead and nine others injured, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
