Weather Impact Alert: Flood Watch issued, neutral ground parking allowed through Saturday; local power outages

Heavy rain could lead to isolated street flooding over the next two days.

NEW ORLEANS — The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch Advisory for the New Orleans area until Saturday evening.

Heavy rain could lead to isolated street flooding into the start of the weekend. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while driving and avoid flooded roadways.

The city has also lifted its ban on neutral ground parking until noon on Saturday.

As of 1:30 p.m., more than 300 customers are without power in the Jean Lafitte-Barataria area of Jefferson Parish. Restoration time is estimated by 6:30 p.m. More than 50 are without electricity in Tangipahoa Parish.

At about 8 a.m. Friday, Entergy New Orleans reported more than 1,100 customers were without power in part of the West End and Lakeview neighborhoods. Entergy says power was restored in the area at about 9 a.m.

The National Weather Service says their forecasters are watching heavy rain as it moves into the metro area.

Due to heavy rainfall expected on the Northshore, St. Tammany Parish officials are providing self-service sandbag stations at five locations.

Officials ask residents to bring their own shovel, but assistance is available for those in need by calling +1 (985) 898-2557.
