Two men rescued from rising flood water in Lakeview

Canal Boulevard reached nearly 4 feet in water, and in the rising flood waters, trapped were two men.

NEW ORLEANS — It's known as a flood-prone area and on Tuesday it trapped two people.

Canal Boulevard reached nearly 4 feet in water, and in the rising flood waters, trapped were two men.

The floodwaters stranded Craig Williams Jr. and his cousin, Williams told Eyewitness News "it was really scary."

Video from an unlikely rescuer shared with Eyewitness News. Nick Sintz works along Canal Blvd. and saw the man in distress, so sprang into action.

"I came down and I saw the jeep stuck in the water and one of the gentlemen was standing in the driver's side, trying to figure out how to get in or out and there was another gentleman who appeared to be trying to get across to the other side, he looked like he was having trouble, and he went underwater and I went in and went and got him," Sintz said.

The passenger swept away in flood water, Sintz says he knew what he had to do.

"He was down for a few seconds, and he wasn't coming back up so I thought he needed help," Sintz said.

After being pulled to safety the man was attended to, later taken away by medics.

Other business owners say it's common to see stranded cars here, Cherie Rose is one of them and she's calling for better signage.

"We see this flood all the time, anytime any major rain this is going to flood," Rose said. "I kinda think that the signs need to be above if they could do something like that yellow sign above."

As for Sintz, Eyewitness News Reporter asked him, "Do you call yourself a hero?" To which he responded, "I don't think I am a hero, I just did what anybody else would've done."
