Weather Alert: Flash Flood Warning issued for parts of southeast Louisiana, power outages in areas

The latest local warning was issued until 9 p.m.

NEW ORLEANS — The National Weather Service issued a 'Flash Flood Warning' on Thursday for St. James, Lafourche, Assumption, and St. John The Baptist parishes until 9 p.m.

A Street Flood advisory was issued until 9:15 p.m. Street flooding is possible in low-lying areas and motorists are urged to avoid driving in high water. 

Earlier, 'Severe Thunderstorm Warnings' were issued for surrounding areas, starting with St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes until 5 p.m.

A warning was later issued for areas in Lafourche, St. James, Iberville, Terrebonne, Assumption and Ascension parishes until 7 p.m.

Other warnings were issued for East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge and Livingston until 6 p.m.

As of 9 p.m. 3,818 Entergy customers are without power in St. John the Baptist Parish. Hundreds of customers are without power in Jefferson Parish.

At one point, 1,151 customers were impacted in Tangipahoa Parish. Thousands more were without electricity in Ascension and East Baton Rouge.

Residents in those areas should seek shelter until the storm passes.

An initial warning was issued for areas in Tangipahoa until 4:30, but that alert and been extended in both scale and time.
