Entergy Louisiana sends workers to help Texas residents

Two million residents lost power during the storm in Texas.

NEW ORLEANS — High winds and rising water clashed in the Houston area as Beryl made landfall early Monday.

The category one storm left widespread damage and power outages in its wake.

On Monday, Entergy Louisiana announced it would send 200 workers to help the 2 million residents who lost power during the storm.

More than 200,000 of them are Entergy customers.

“My team’s ready. They have the muscle memory,” said Steve Benyard of Entergy Louisiana. “We are sending our transmission linemen, our distribution linemen, so different skill sets depending on what kind of damages we see.”

Benyard says Entergy crews from surrounding states will also send teams to help Texas residents.

“If they need a second wave, based on any other damage they may have, once we are good and in the clear we’ll send more folks,” said Benyard. “We always make sure we plan to make sure we're good too and that New Orleans is as well.”

Entergy isn’t alone. More than 400 staff and volunteers from the American Red Cross are making their way to Texas, 20 of them from Louisiana.

“They will be providing shelters, providing cleaning kits, providing meals to families,” said Regional CEO Kenneth St. Charles. “We want to be there to help whatever needs people need immediately.”
