SLIDELL, La. — The National Weather Service is now reporting that two tornadoes touched down in Slidell last Wednesday.
In a tweet, NWS said, "After tedious satellite analysis, we have confirmed that a total of 8 tornadoes tracked from Slidell, LA through Kiln, MS."
Two of those tornadoes touched down in Slidell. NWS confirmed the EF-2 last Thursday and is now reporting an EF-1.
The EF-1 tornado had maximum winds of 90 MPH. NWS said, "that tracked just south of Interstate 12/10 before crossing the Interstate near Military Road and impacting the neighborhoods along Crawford Landing Road."
The EF-2 tornado had 120 miles per hour wind speeds. It bent metal beams and blew off the roofs of apartment buildings.
There was also an EF-1 and EF-0 that touched down in Stennis.
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry signed an emergency declaration on Tuesday for areas affected by storms and tornadoes. Landry's declaration permits the use of state resources to assist with the recovery process in each of the affected parishes
Researchers looking at long-term trends say they're finding more clusters of tornadoes compared to years past.
