NEW ORLEANS — Several areas in southeast Louisiana, particularly in New Orleans, had some streets impassable for a couple of hours after a strong line of storms moved through.
The National Weather Service in New Orleans issued a Flash Flood Advisory that finally expired about 6 p.m.
A Street Flood Advisory lingered a bit later due to standing water but the worst of things appeared to be over by 5 p.m.
Between 3 to 6 inches of rain fell in the hardest hit areas of Gentilly, Lakeview and New Orleans East.
At least one school dismissed early and close to 5,600 buildings lost power at the height of the storms.
The city of New Orleans allowed residents to park their vehicles on neutral grounds until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Two men were rescued from a vehicle at Canal Boulevard. Water had risen to about 4 feet.
The storms were associated with the normal summer-like afternoon storms that can pop up and be very strong due to the heat of the day.
