Flash flood warning for Orleans, parts of Jefferson and St. Bernard until 2 p.m.

NEW ORLEANS — A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for parts or Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard parishes until 2 p.m. as a line of strong storms is dumping rain on parts of the area.

Meteorologist Payton Malone says the rain is currently heaviest in New Orleans East.

The city of New Orleans is allowing neutral ground parking of cars until 6 p.m. 

There is the usual request not to block intersections, streetcar tracks, sidewalks or bike paths. 

The National Weather Service says that Doppler radar is indicating that between a half and one inch of rain has already fallen and another one to two inches could fall in the next 30 minutes with up to three inches before the rain subsides.

"Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... New Orleans, Chalmette, East New Orleans, Marrero, Jefferson, Gretna, Westwego, Arabi, Bridge City and Lakefront Airport.

This includes the following Interstates... 

  • Interstate 510 between mile markers 1 and 3. 
  • Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 232 and 251.
  • Interstate 610 between mile markers 1 and 4.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
