New Orleans High School delays opening for a week due to AC problems

A New Orleans high school has decided to push back the start of classes by a week due to the extreme heat in the city and problems with its air conditioning.

St. Katharine Drexel Preparatory School will move it's school start date from Aug. 10 to Thursday, Aug. 17.

The school sent a note out and put a message on its website saying that "the extreme heat and the unforeseen delays in securing parts needed to make repairs to the A/C system has made for challenges in cooling down critical areas of the building."

The school said the safety of the students, faculty and staff are coming first during the extreme heat.

“SKDP is working expeditiously to improve these conditions, so our students can be in an environment where they can focus on learning," said Ms. Melody Robinson, SKDP Board President.

St. Katharine Drexel Prep is located on Magazine Street and is an all-girls school from grades 8-12.
