List: Francine school closures, reopenings parish-by-parish

NEW ORLEANS — Hurricane Francine formed Monday morning and sweep across southeast Louisiana Wednesday evening. While restoration efforts are underway, Here is a list of school closures and reopenings.

Lafourche Parish

  • All Lafourche Parish public schools will remain closed Monday, Sept. 16, to allow staff time to ensure all campuses are clean and safe and to prepare our cafeterias to receive food deliveries. Officials said they are optimistic that we will be able to welcome students back to campus Tuesday, Sept. 17.
  • Nicholls State University is set to reopen for normal operation Monday, September 16, 2024, after enduring the direct impact of Hurricane Francine. 

Orleans Parish 

  • University of Holy Cross will switch to virtual classes and operations for Wednesday through Saturday. At this time, the University of Holy Cross plans to reopen campus and resume normal operations on Monday, September 16
  • Dillard University will reopen on Monday, September 16.
  • The Willow Schoolis closing all campuses until Monday, September 16. The lower school campus is having sewer issues, and the HVAC system is down at the high school campus
  • NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) will resume regular operations on Monday, September 16. Families are encouraged to contact their individual schools for specific details and schedules.

Jefferson Parish

  • All Jefferson Parish Schools and Administrative buildings will resume with our regularly scheduled professional development day on Monday, September 16, and students will return on Tuesday, September 17. 
  • Jefferson RISE Charter School will reopen on Monday.

St. Charles Parish

  •  All St. Charles Parish Public Schools and offices – except Carver – will reopen on Friday, and Carver will reopen on Monday, September 16. 


Terrebonne Parish

  • All TPSD schools will be closed on Monday, September 16.

    • 240 Day Employees should report to work.  All other employees will be notified on when to return to work through our JCampus Robocall System, or via our  Facebook Page, our District Website, and through media outlets.
