Ida temporary trailer program ramping up in Louisiana, governor says

Still, the program faces criticism that it's not moving fast enough to help families whose homes are uninhabitable.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana’s temporary housing program for people displaced by Hurricane Ida is increasing its pace of getting people into travel trailers nearly two months after the storm wrecked southeastern parishes.

Gov. John Bel Edwards' administration says the state has bought 2,000 trailers to distribute to storm victims. By Wednesday, 68 of those trailers have families living in them. That's five times the number from a week earlier.

Still, the program faces criticism that it's not moving fast enough to help families whose homes are uninhabitable. Edwards says he expects the effort to ramp up further in the coming days.

“We’re not satisfied. We’re going to keep moving faster," Edwards said.

People can register for the program or check on the status of their application by visiting IdaShelteringla.com or calling 1-844-268-0301.
