Deadline for Blue Roof program extended to October 15

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended the program as the demand continues to be high.

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Blue Roof program that will supply and install a tarp onto your roof until longer term repairs can be made has been extended until October 15, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The popular program that has had demand for tens of thousands of tarps, was to have ended Thursday, Sept. 30.

The program is free but does require filling out a Right of Entry document that gives the Corps access to your property.

The goal of the program is to allow people to continue to live in their homes while they wait for available roofers and contractors to become available.

The Corps wants to remind people that it will not charge for its services, so, if someone claiming to be a part of the program tries to charge you, it is not valid.

With more than 100,000 homes damaged, the Blue Roof program has experienced delays on its phone lines.
