NEW ORLEANS — Update: S&WB officials announced Sunday, May 5 the advisory was lifted for all properties in the affected area.
Several schools will be closed Friday due to a boil water advisory in Uptown New Orleans.
The following schools have announced closures for Friday, May 3.
- Benjamin Franklin Elementary Mathematics and Science School seventh and eighth-grade students do not need to report to school Friday. All sixth-grade students must report to the school's Lakefront Campus for standardized testing.
- De La Salle High School
- New Orleans Science and Math High School
- Lusher Charter High/ Freret Street Campus
- Lusher Middle School / Freret Street Campus
- Audubon Broadway Campus (at Milan) is closed for all grades pre-kindergarten to eighth grade Friday.
- Isidore Newman School
- St. Katharine Drexel Preparatory School
- Samuel Green Charter School
- Holy Rosary
- Holy Name of Jesus
The closures were announced after a water main break was discovered around midnight near South Claiborne Avenue and Soniat streets. The leak caused water to flood nearby streets and dropped water pressure to much of the Uptown area.
The boil water advisory extends from South Carrollton to Napoleon Avenues and South Claiborne Avenue to the Mississippi River.
