NEW ORLEANS — The Transportation Security Administration gave us some tips on how to safely travel with a weapon on Thursday.
TSA agents at Armstrong International Airport say they have taken 15 guns at the security checkpoint this year.
If you want to travel with a gun, TSA agents say it needs to be unloaded and kept in a locked, hard-sided case in your checked bag.
Do not put it in your carry-on bag. You also must declare it to the airline at check-in.
Also, make sure you look up what the gun laws are in the state you're traveling to. Some will not allow you to bring it at all.
TSA says if you bring a gun to a TSA checkpoint, you will no longer be allowed to use pre-check, and you may have to pay a fine of up to $15,000.
So if you don't need to bring it, it's best to just leave it in a secure place at home.
