BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A contract worker for Louisiana's transportation department has been killed after a vehicle collided with equipment in a work zone on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.
Louisiana State Police Trooper Taylor J. Scrantz, in a news release, says it happened shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday as 48-year-old Andres Torres, of Land O' Lakes, Florida, was attaching an arrow board traffic control sign to the rear of a company truck in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10. The left lane had been closed for construction, and crews were in the process of opening the lane. That's when, authorities say, 32-year-old Ronald Brown, of Sunset, Louisiana, hit the sign and Torres.
Torres was transported to a Baton Rouge hospital, where he died. Brown sustained minor injuries.
Scrantz says the crash remains under investigation.
