HAMMOND, La. — UPDATE: Interstate 12 was reopened to traffic as of 10:48 a.m.

Authorities say multiple crashes have closed part of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 12 near the I-55 interchange in Hammond on Friday morning.
Just after 9 a.m., Louisiana State Police say both lanes of I-12 were closed and are expected to be closed for an "undetermined amount of time."
Traffic cameras in the area show a large presence of law enforcement and first responders. It is unclear if anyone was injured in the crashes.
I-12 has been closed to traffic at mile marker 36 (before Hammond), and as of 9:45 a.m. congestion had reached the Albany exit. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area is possible, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
