Spillway closed again, rolling fog convoy is in effect on the Causeway bridge

A dense fog advisory will be in effect until 10 a.m. Drive carefully and slowly, and use low beams.

NEW ORLEANS — The Bonnet Carré Spillway Bridge is back closed Wednesday morning after reopening around 6:30 a.m. with police convoys.

Here is how traffic is being diverted and alternate route:

  • Eastbound traffic is being diverted off at US 51 in Laplace.
  • Westbound traffic at the I-310
  • Southbound or exit at I-55 in the Laplace
  • The alternate route for the spillway is Airline Highway.

Also, the southbound side of the Causeway Bridge has a rolling fog convoy in effect.

Causeway officials are asking people to drive at 45 miles an hour. Motorcycles, RVs, and glass-carrying trucks are not allowed, and there are no lane changes in convoys. Northbound is currently right lane only.

A dense fog advisory will be in effect until 10 a.m. Drive carefully and slowly, and use low beams.

Once the fog dissipates later this morning, there'll be some sunshine this afternoon before clouds increase ahead of a cold front later today.
