PONCHATOULA, La. — The southbound part of I-55 between Ponchatoula and LaPlace is expected to close on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation.
Crews have been working to repair damaged portions of the highway since a deadly crash killed seven people and damaged 168 cars and trucks on the interstate last month.
Saturday's closure is part of that restoration.
"Southbound (travelers) can use Old US-51 as an alternate route during the closure period," DOTD said Friday. " Once reopened Saturday afternoon, traffic on I-55 southbound will utilize the right lane near the scene of the crash as crews repair the left."
Southbound reopened a few days after the crash, with some lanes facing temporary closures during the reopening.
The northbound side of the interstate has remained closed since last month's deadly wreck.
