UPDATE: As of 8 p.m. Monday, the incident on the Huey P. Long - Eastbound was cleared. The bridge has reopened.
The Huey P Long Bridge heading from the Westbank to the Eastbank has been shut down due to a man on top of the bridge.
According to officials, both eastbound and westbound sides of the bridge were shut down as the situation unfolded.
Authorities safely took the man off the bridge after about three hours, according to a report by the New Orleans Advocate.
