NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans announced on Thursday that all traffic proceeding from Esplanade Avenue towards City Park will be diverted to turn left onto North Claiborne Avenue.

The Esplanade Avenue lane coming from City Park and headed towards North Claiborne Avenue will still be operational for traveling use.

According to the city, a Department of Code Enforcement Inspector was conducting a routine Minimal Property Maintenance inspection on Wednesday when it was discovered that a wall was separating from a building.

DCE promptly dispatched a demolition crew as the front facade was considered unstable.

Abatement of the facade is almost complete.

Once debris has been cleared, a barricade will be placed on the sidewalk and partially into the street – forcing inbound traffic heading up Esplanade Avenue into a single-lane formation.

City officials said Entergy was contacted to cut off electrical and gas services, and barricades were set up to protect the public.
