NEW ORLEANS — The Senator Ted Hickey (Seabrook) Bridge is closed until further notice after an inspection revealed more structural problems, the Louisiana Department of Transportation of Development said Wednesday evening.
DOTD said they had to force close the bridge for upcoming maintenance work. The initial closure of the bridge happened last spring after being damaged by a vehicle.
Officials said, "DOTD made emergency repairs to stabilize the bridge in order to support one lane of traffic in each direction."
However, a recent inspection showed that the integrity of the support structure had additional wear.
DOTD said residents can detour via US 90 (Chef Menteur Blvd) and I-10.
