Causeway Blvd, Airline Hwy Traffic Circle road closures begin

The road closure will give work crews a chance to rehab the roadways. The roadwork repair projects cost millions of dollars.

NEW ORLEANS — Some parts of Causeway Boulevard will be limited by roadwork on Thursday, officials said.

Drivers heading west on W Napoleon Avenue at Causway Boulevard should know that one of the left-turn lanes is closed.

The left-turn lanes on Causeway Boulevard, northbound and southbound, are also closed. Motorists will have to merge to available lanes of traffic.

The southbound on-ramp from Causway Boulevard to the Airline Highway Traffic Circle will be closed.

The northbound on-ramp from Causeway Boulevard to the traffic circle will be closed, beginning Friday at 7 p.m.

The road closure will give work crews a chance to rehab the roadways. The roadwork repair projects cost millions of dollars.

Susan Treadway with the Jefferson Parish Traffic Engineering Department spoke to WWLTV Thursday morning.

"Just plan ahead," Treadway said. "[It's] the big thing...to get back where you need to be."

Below is the announcement of one of the closures from the Jefferson Parish Instagram page:

"Motorists wishing to access Airline Drive will be detoured at West Metairie Avenue to turn on Severn Avenue and take a left toward Airline Drive. Motorists on Airline Drive wishing to take northbound Causeway Boulevard will be detoured at Severn Avenue towards West Metairie Avenue to then take a right on West Metairie Avenue toward Causeway Boulevard. One lane of Causeway Boulevard will remain closed in each direction. The existing southbound lane closure will be extended to north of West Metairie Avenue.

The closure is to rehabilitate the bridge overpass, part of a $12.51 million project. Work is scheduled to be complete by March 31, 2022 at 5 a.m., weather permitting."
