BATON ROUGE, La. — "Bayou Barbie" is headed to Chicago after being drafted into the WBNA Monday as the No. 7 overall pick. Now hooping with Chicago Sky, former LSU forward Angel Reese is set to make $324,383 over the next four seasons, according to On3.
Reese's rookie contract starts her off at $73,439 for the year with gradual increases, and an expected $93,636 in her fourth season.
Compared to the other WNBA selections, Reese will earn less than picks No. 1-4 as they head into their rookie year, making $76,535.
Former Iowa star and No. 1 WNBA draft pick Caitlin Clark topped Reese and will be earning $76,535 in her first year and $338,056 in her contract with Indiana Fever.
Players in the WNBA have an average salary of $147,745, with Jackie Young of the Las Vegas Aces being the highest-paid player, earning $252,450 this past season, On3 reported.
On draft night, Reese said Sky players told her that it's not the number you go, it's the fit of the team.
"I get to play with Kamilla [Cardoso]. I've been playing against her since high school so I'm excited to play with Kamilla and T-Spoon [Teresa Weatherspoon] is amazing and she's done some great things. I'm excited to be coached by her," Reese said.
Reese plans to bring the same competitive spirit she had with the LSU Tigers to Chicago Sky.
"Just coming in and being competitive, having an open mind every day to just want to work and I'm just excited to learn from my vets," Reese said.
