The Amite Warriors have earned their first state title since 2004, beating the Welsh Greyhounds 47-20 in the Mercedes-Benz Supderdome on Friday in the Class 2A championship game of the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Prep Classic.
Amite's senior quarterback Amani Gilmore passed for five touchdowns and rushed for a sixth, leading the Warriors to their 14th-straight win and the Class 2A State title, the Advocate Reports.
“It’s been 14 years since Amite High School hoisted a state championship trophy, and it was way too long,’’ said Amite coach Zephanian Powell, who won his first state title as the Warriors coach.
