Saints reveal who will be Derek Carr’s backup QB and inactive player list

The Saints have announced who will be the backup quarterback to Derek Carr and the list of inactive players ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

NEW ORLEANS — The Saints have announced who will be the backup quarterback to Derek Carr and the list of inactive players ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

Jake Haener, a fourth-round pick, will be the next man up to Carr in Sunday’s game in the Caesars Superdome.

As our partners at Nola.com report, head coach Dennis Allen picked Haener after a competitive battle in training camp between him and rookie Spencer Rattler.

The Saints also announced the list of inactive players:

  • Wide receiver A.T. Perry (hand)
  • Defensive tackle Khalen Saunders (calf)
  • Linebacker D’Marco Jackson (calf)
  • Linebacker Jaylan Ford (hamstring)
  • Defensive tackle John Ridgeway III
  • Tight end Dallin Holker (ankle)

Carolina Panthers inactives:

  • 22 Safety Jammie Robinson
  • 27 Cornerback Shemar Bartholomew
  • 60 Center Andrew Raym
  • 61 Guard Jarrett Kingston
  • 82 Tight end Tommy Tremble
  • 85 Tight end Messiah Swinson
  • 93 Defensive end LaBryan Ray
