Saints center Max Unger has decided to retire, according to a report by ESPN NFL insider Field Yates.
Unger was in the Pro Bowl for his work this past season as he was the veteran on a talented offensive line that protected Drew Brees and opened holes for Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram.
Unger was a key piece of the trade between the Saints and Seahawks prior to the 2015 season that sent TE Jimmy Graham to Seattle.
Unger, who is 32 years old, had started 63 of his 64 regular season games with the Saints.
The retirement would seem to come as somewhat of a surprise and it creates another hole for the team to fill.
