NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Saints (5-4) triple threat Taysom Hill made history with 6:05 to play in the first half of the team's 24-17 win over the Chicago Bears (2-7) in the Caesars Superdome on Sunday.
With a 2-yard reception from Derek Carr to Hill, the 33-year-old out of Pocatello, Idaho, became the second player in NFL history to record at least 10 touchdowns rushing, passing and now receiving, too.
The Saints tight end-slash-quarterback joins former New York Giants star – and Pro Football Hall-of-Famer – Frank Gifford as the only players to accomplish the feat. Gifford, who died in 2014 at age 84, played for the Giants between 1952 and 1964, while taking two years off (1960-62) off following a near career-ending concussion suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 20, 1960.
"I think that's pretty impressive," said Saints head coach Dennis Allen after the game. "Half the guys in the locker room would have no idea who Frank Gifford is, so I think that's pretty impressive."
Against the Bears, Hill went 1-for-1 passing with a 3-yard touchdown toss to tight end Juwan Johnson in the fourth quarter, as well rushed 11 times for52 yards (4.7-yard average), and four receptions for 13 yards and the historic touchdown.
"I look back at my career and I certainly didn't think it would have gone the way it has," Hill told media in the post-game press conference. "But as I think about stuff like that, it's overwhelming. I have a lot of gratitude to be a part of this program and play with coaches that are creative enough to give me opportunities."
