NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints selected quarterback Spencer Rattler of South Carolina with their fifth round draft selection on Saturday.

Rattler, the 150th overall pick, stands 6'1 tall and weighs 215 pounds. He'll have a chance to make the roster after the team lost backup Jameis Winston in the offseason.

With the 170th pick overall, the Saints chose WR Bub Means out of Pittsburgh. They also nabbed LB Jaylan Ford from Texas and Kristian Boyd, a 6'2, 320 pound defensive tackle.

Rattler played three years at Oklahoma before finishing out with two seasons at South Carolina.

In his five seasons, he completed 68.5 percent of his passes and threw 77 touchdowns and 32 interceptions.

According to a draft scouting report on Bleacher Report, Rattler has a strong arm and can throw while being hassled by a defense. He has good accuracy and is creative. His negatives include his height and his overall athleticism.

He was projected by different draft analysts as going anywhere from late first round to the second or third round, but he fell further than expected.

Means had 41 recpetions for 721 yards in his last year at Pittsburgh. He had previously played some at Tennessee and Louisiana Tech.  Means is listed as 6'1" and 212 pounds.

NFL.com's draft projection on Means has him as an "average backup or special teams player."

Jaylan Ford from Texas was also given a projection as a backup or special teams player. He is 6'2" and 240 pounds. His senior season, he was named first team All-Big-12 and led the Longhorns with 101 tackles, 10.5 of those for a loss.

Kritsian Boyd of Northern Iowa is a large defensive tackle from Northern Iowa. He was a third-team Associated Press FCS All-American. First-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference in 2023.
