METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Saints announced that second-round draft pick Kool-Aid McKinstry has signed a 4-year contract on Friday.
According to team officials, the 41st overall selection out of Alabama is the final player of the team's seven-man NFL Draft class to sign.
In three seasons at cornerback for the Crimson Tide, McKinstry posted 92 tackles (61 solo), two interceptions and 25 passes defended.
Shortly after McKinstry was selected, the Kraft Heinz-owned Kool-Aid brand announced it's launching a new flavor honoring him.
Following his selection as the 41st overall pick, McKinstry explained how his unique name came from his grandmother.
"The day I was born, she (grandma) said I had a Kool-Aid smile, that's how I got the name Kool-Aid," the 21-year-old Birmingham native named "Ga'Quincy" at birth explained.
McKinstry joins a loaded Saints defensive secondary, which already rosters fellow corners Paulsen Adebo, Alontae Taylor and 4-time Pro Bowler Marshon Lattimore. All-Pro Tyrann Mathieu and 2023 fifth-rounder Jorden Howden anchor the safety positions.
