New Orleans fans react to firing of Saints head coach Dennis Allen

Interim Saints Head Coach Darren Rizzi will make his debut this Sunday in the Caesar’s Superdome against the conference rival Atlanta Falcons.

NEW ORLEANS — Word started trickling out of Saints camp early Monday morning.

The team and Head Coach Dennis Allen had parted ways following Sunday’s embarrassing loss to the one and seven Carolina Panthers.

“It was a day that was coming,” Saints fan Mike Serio said. “I think he was like a dead man walking. He had a bad luck year with all the injuries and so forth.”

The owner of Serio’s Po-boys in downtown New Orleans called the Saints a rudderless ship.

“We’ve got to evaluate everybody from Mickey Loomis on down,” Serio said. “The coaches, you’ve got to reevaluate everybody. But it’s not good.”

Leroy Mitchell aka Whistle Monsta has dressed up in the stands as his Who Dat alter-ego for 31 years.

Win or lose, he’s still cheering.

“The team doesn’t need you when they’re doing well,” Mitchell said. “They really need you during difficult times.”

Mitchell said it was time to make a coaching change.

“The guys on the field, I don’t think they go out there to lose. I don’t think they go out there to make you upset. I don’t think that just taking Dennis out is going to make everything better. But it’s a step in the right direction.”

A direction the Who Dat nation hopes will spark a return to winning football.

“I think Sean Payton ought to come back, Deborah Boulas said. “It’s sad, I hate to see anyone get fired, but let’s face it, he lost 7 straight games.”

“It just got extreme, where the fans are getting really disillusioned and upset and I think something needed to happen to change,” Cindy Garrett said.

“To be in this position this part of the season is really kind of hopeless,” Serio said.

There was a steady drum beat from fans in recent weeks calling for Dennis Allen to be replaced.  Now that he has the rebuilding begins for the Black and Gold.
