Offseason signings
The Saints had a slow start to free agency. They started by signing Super Bowl-winning linebacker Wille Gay. They also signed signed fullback Zander Horvath. The team also extended Tyrann Mathieu and Demario Davis' contracts.
Their most notable signing has been free-agent pass rusher Chase Young. Young was selected No. 2 in the 2020 NFL draft by the Washington Commanders. He won 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year and spent his four seasons with them before being traded at the deadline to the San Fransico 49ers.
The New Orleans Saints also added another quarterback to their roster after losing Jameis Winston.
Nathan Peterman was signed to a one-year deal. He was Derek Carr's backup for two seasons in Oakland and worked with Saints quarterback coach Andrew Janocko previously. Peterman is expected to compete with Jake Haener for the backup position.
