METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Saints scored a dominant victory over NFC South rival and division leader Tampa Bay on Sunday, but the road win did not come without loss.
According to WWL Louisiana media partner The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate, the Saints roster took a hit with the loss of linebacker Nephi Sewell, who is out indefinitely due to a torn ACL against the Buccaneers.
“That’s going to cause him to have surgery, so obviously that’s a long recovery process,” New Orleans head coach Dennis Allen said.
Updates on two other Saints forced to leave the Week 17 game are less definite, including an ankle sprain suffered by running back Alvin Kamara in the first half and a second knee injury sustained by offensive lineman Landon Young, who was starting in place of injured right tackle Ryan Ramczyk after the latter was placed on injured reserve last week.
“He was in for rehab this morning, obviously we’ll see how he responds throughout the week,” Allen said of Kamara's injury.
As for Young, the 26-year-old out of the University of Kentucky missed a few weeks of practice after initially injuring his knee in training camp.
Meanwhile, the Saints turn attention toward the regular-season finale against archrival Atlanta on Sunday.
The Saints (8-8) fell to the Falcons 25-15 on Nov. 26, and will need a win over Atlanta (7-9) and a Bucs (8-8) loss or tie to the two-win Carolina Panthers (2-14) to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2020-21 season.
