NEW ORLEANS — According to WWL Louisiana contributor and 'Locked on Saints Podcast' host Ross Jackson, NFL chain crew member Nick Piazza will require surgery to repair damage to his left leg while working a Week 13 game in the Caesars Superdome on Sunday.
Piazza suffered a dislocated knee and a fractured fibula during an in-game collision with Saints running back Alvin Kamara inside the second quarter of the Saints' eventual 33-28 loss to the Lions (9-3).
Piazza underwent MRI testing on Monday morning and was examined by an attending orthopedic doctor at the hospital. Ross tweeted on X, that Piazza's blood vessels remain intact and he will likely undergo surgery next week.
Ross also posted that Piazza "appreciates the many well wishes and the continued care he continues to receive."
Aside from Piazza, Saints head coach Dennis Allen revealed on Monday that starting quarterback Derek Carr suffered his second game-ending concussion in less than a month, as well as a potential rib injury which is currently being evaluated, and defensive tackle Malcolm Roach sustained a knee injury that could require surgery.
The Saints (5-7) host the second of a three-game homestand on Sunday with the visiting Carolina Panthers (1-11), followed by the New York Giants (4-8) on Dec. 17.
