NEW ORLEANS — The Saints will hold a three-day minicamp beginning Tuesday and we expect to see all the players that skipped the voluntary workouts to participate this week. It's also another opportunity for the new players and rookies to work with the team.
And that means more reps for Spencer Rattler, the outside interest is high on how the rookie 5th rounder is progressing, simply because he plays quarterback.
Rattler joins Jake Haener and veteran Nathan Peterman in the competition to be the backup to Derek Carr.
Now it's usually not the easiest transition from college to the pros, so these offseason workouts are important in developing a player.
Rattler going through the growing pains so to say right now.
"The part of it, out here during this time and even in training camp is figuring out what you can do and what you can't do," said Saints head coach Dennis Allen. "And if never take a chance, then I never really know what I can or can't do when I leave."
Allen said the windows close a little bit faster than they do in college and it's all apart of the learning curve.
He said he's encouraged by what he sees out of Rattler, "there's a lot of improvement left to be had, but I think he's making some good progress," Allen said.
Minicamp will run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week.
