NEW ORLEANS — Darren Rizzi says it is his goal to become an NFL head coach. He's now got eight games to show what he can do as the Saints interim coach. Injuries and a roster that had no depth, play a role in Dennis Allen getting fired and Rizzi has to battle through the same issues.
His team could get a little healthier for the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Rizzi was named interim head coach on Monday after the Saints fired Allen following the team's seven-game losing streak.
The Saints started practicing under Rizzi on Wednesday.
Safety Will Harris was a full participant in practice on Thursday. He won the starting job in the opener and has been out with a hamstring injury. And center Erik McCoy is getting closer, he was limited for the first time since hurting his groin in Week 3.
Rizzi says there's no quit in his team.
"Do I think in any way shape or form that we're giving up on this season? I don't.," Rizzi said.
" I don't think the locker room thinks that we're giving up on the season. The front office doesn't think we're giving up on the season. And all things right now, this week are pointed to going beat the Atlanta Falcons," he said.
Rizzi will definitely bring some energy.
The Saints play the Falcons at noon on Sunday in the Superdome.
