Derek Carr out for game with concussion, shoulder injury

Derek Carr was slammed hard by the Vikings' Danielle Hunter and left the game after being down on the field for a while.

NEW ORLEANS — Saints quarterback Derek Carr was injured on a hit in the third quarter of the team’s game with the Vikings and left the field with trainers. Once on the sideline he was taken off on a cart.

Jameis Winston replaced Carr in the game after the hit was delivered following a pass midway through the third quarter of a game the Saints were losing badly, 27-3.

FOX Sports reported that Carr was diagnosed with a concussion and a right shoulder injury and would not return.

Carr suffered an AC joint injury to his shoulder earlier in the season but didn’t miss any games.

The Saints were playing poorly against the Vikings, being outgained 3-1 in yards in the first half.

Winston came into the game and finished off the drive Carr had started with three completions in three attempts including a touchdown to Chris Olave.

A two-point conversion run by Alvin Kamara cut the margin to 27-11. WInston would lead one more touchdown drive the Vikings lead to eight. The Saints' defense managed to force punts on four straight drives to keep their comeback attempt alive, but their last-second Hail Mary was unsuccessful.

Cornerback Marshon Lattimore and wide receiver Michael Thomas also left the game with injuries.
