NEW ORLEANS — This may be the most embarrassing loss for the black and gold in 20 years. The Carolina Panthers were the worst team in the NFL coming into Sunday and the Saints still found a way to fall, making it seven straight losses.
This is the Saints first seven-game losing streak since 1999.
But it sparked a lot of conversation on social media, including from former Saints wideout Michael Thomas, who was critical of QB Derek Carr and the Saints in a series of angry tweets.
"Derek Carr for you," Thomas posted on X. "I been told yall s*** sad," he said ending the post with a sad face and middle finger emoji.
"Dude scary and panic and just throw the ball," Thomas said in another tweet. "Get him the f out of here he so a**."
According to NOLA.com, Thomas said Carr's reputation as a decent NFL starting quarterback was all thanks to former Las Vegas Raiders receiver Davante Adams.
"That year his buddy went 1st team All-Pro in 2022, he needed 180 targets just to catch 100 passes," Thomas posted. "He is a**, on my granny."
The former Saints wide receiver even talked about his experience playing with Carr in 2023.
Thomas tweeted, "Dude tried to lie and say I was jealous of them making Chris WR1 whole time he can’t even get him a decent ball. He need his a** whooped."
He then said Carr's subpar play led to Saints coaching staff members to lose their jobs, our partners reported.
"They fired all them coaches trying to cover his flaws up he still doing the same sh**," Thomas tweeted.
Thomas even posted a video of a man talking about QB Carr on X.
To add injury to insult, star wide receiver Chris Olave was knocked out of the game in the first quarter and had to be carted off the field. The good news is, that he was released from the hospital and is returning with the team to New Orleans.
Olave's brother, Josh Olave, agreed and when a fan suggested retirement, his response was "Ain't worth it NOLA".
After the game, Carr responded to Thomas. It was Carr's first game back on the field after missing three games with an oblique injury.
"I have love for Mike. You know, and when he does that I don't really care for it obviously," Carr said. "I've had so many teammates over the years and he's like the one dude that didn't get along with me," he said.
"I don't know what I did to him, I don't know why he feels that way, I'm sorry with whatever he's dealing with to make him feel like he's got to do that. I don't know, but he's never called me during any of this," Carr said. "My phone number has never changed, I've in fact called him on different occasions just to try."
Carr said sometimes you can try as hard as you want and it just doesn't work out and that's okay.
Thomas, a two-time All-Pro and the 2019 AP Offensive Players of the Year has not signed to a team this season after the Saints released him last summer.
