NEW ORLEANS — The Saints had their best offensive effort of the season as they scored 38 points in Lucas Oil Stadium.
They racked up more than 500 offensive yards in beating the Indianapolis Colts, and they rushed for more than 160 yards.
Taysom Hill obviously took that to a new level in this game.
There are so many things to like about this offensive performance. I think you have to start with the offensive line, which hasn't been great in the first seven games of the season. They played by far their best game overall in this game.
Derek Carr, I think he had by far his best overall game. Carr was sharp. He got the ball out quickly.
As good as this offensive effort was, the Saint still left some plays on the field, the one play to Chris Olave where maybe Carr threw it a step before Olave was ready, and it went off his helmet, the one play to Juwan Johnson in the middle in the endzone, a couple of plays that weren't quite there.
They still left a little bit on the field but did so much right.
This was a game when the offense carried the defense. We haven't seen that yet this season.
Every single Saints player after this game, including coach Dennis Allen, said this team needed this for the offense's confidence and for the defense's confidence in the offense.
Look, the win over New England was huge, the shutout win, but this game almost feels a little bit better because of what it means for the Saints' offense. We've seen the defense put great games together. This certainly wasn't their best game, but Paulson Adebo played great, but there were a lot of mistakes on defense.
The Colts ran the ball for a lot of yards. This was a day when the offense carried the defense, and just the fact that the Saints O showed that they could do that, I think, is huge going forward.
