NEW ORLEANS — All season long fans have ridden an emotional rollercoaster watching the New Orleans Saints start high and fall flat by mid-season.
On Monday, a pair of local social media influencers rejoiced after the announcement of head coach Dennis Allen's firing.
“I just opened up my phone and seen some great news,” Rob Kazi screamed in a video on Instagram to his nearly one million followers. “Dennis Allen is finally out of here!”
The comedian and actor has been campaigning for Allen’s release since the team started a record-setting losing streak several weeks ago.
“I really thought we had a chance to play in the Super Bowl in the Superdome,” he told WWL Louisiana on Monday.
His dreams were quickly dashed when the Saints started to lose and never stopped.
“My son is still on punishment,” Kazi Joked.
And then there is Joshua Starkman, a musician and social media star who has been campaigning through Instagram reels to have Allen fired.
“I have also vowed to not shower until he was fired,” said Starkman. “It’s been seven weeks.”
After finally showering he agreed to an interview with WWL.
“You see how you made me suffer Dennis,” Starkman exclaimed.
For weeks Starkman’s campaign gained traction online.
“The rizz of New Orleans is tied up in the saints,” he said. “The economy is tied up, probably the fertility rate is tied up in it.”
It’s why Starkman was so passionate about calling for Allen’s firing.
“That’s show biz baby,” he said.
Even though both men were seemingly praying for Allen’s downfall, they say they were just echoing most Saints fans.
“It’s a way for us to cope,” said Kazi. “Especially during losses, and it’s a way for us to come together when we win.”
