'He was a dead man walking' | Saints fans react to head Coach Dennis Allen getting fired

“Not surprised at all. You know, it was a day that was coming, you know, I think he was like a dead man walking,” said Saints Superfan Mike Serio.

NEW ORLEANS — It didn’t take long for the Saints to part ways with Head Coach Dennis Allen after an embarrassing loss to the Panthers on Sunday and a 2-7 start to the season riddled with injuries to key players.

When news broke that Allen was out, some Saints fans were not surprised.

“Not surprised at all. You know, it was a day that was coming, you know, I think he was like a dead man walking,” said Saints Superfan and owner of Serio’s Po-Boys Mike Serio. “He had a bad luck year, you know, with all the injuries and so forth, you know, the first game of the year we started with a big promise, you know since then it's been downhill and the injury bugs hurt.

He says he has seen the frustration of Saints fans who have used his shop as a popular hangout.

you can't seem to turn a corner you know, it's, you lose, you know, particular players, you know, with injuries and stuff like that, and then we and nobody's really stepping up to take the challenge and, and look it, it seems like we're, we're rudder on the ship, they just spin their wheels going around in circles and, they get the opportunity and then they just blow it,” Serio said.

“Maybe it's a lack of who we draft and who we sign as free agents. We got to evaluate everybody from, from, from Mickey Loom was on down, you know, and, uh, the coaches told you got to re-evaluate everybody, but it's not good and, to be in this position, this part of the season, it's kind of hopeless.”

Other Saints fans took to social media to share in the frustration others rejoiced at the news Allen was gone.

Allen leaves the Saints with a 2-7 record going into week 10 when they take on the Atlanta Falcons. Saints Special Teams Coordinator Darren Rizzi will take over as interim head coach.
