NEW ORLEANS — The NFL Players Association announced the death of former New Orleans Saints linebacker Ronald Powell on Tuesday.
The Saints' fifth-round draft pick in 2014 died on Monday at age 32.
According to WWL Louisiana media partner Nola.com, no cause of death has been revealed for the former University of Florida standout.
Former Saints defensive end Junior Galette took to social media to honor his former teammate on Monday.
"I Love You Forever till we meet again an EXCELLENT FATHER Respected Brother and a Loving Son I am saddened to [share] with the rest of the world that Ronald Powell Transitioned Earlier today. REST IN POWER RONALD POWELL," Galette said in a post on X.
Powell's career was derailed by a knee injury in 2015.
The 6-foot-3, 250-pounder from Riverside, Calif., bounced around on the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears and the Seattle Seahawks for the next two seasons before finishing his career with the Orlando Apollos (Alliance of American Football) in 2019.
