TAHOE CITY, California — The American Century Championship is the premier celebrity golf tournament in the country. Held in Tahoe, California, its a beautiful setting. It raises money for charity and for the football players in attendance, it's also one of the last getaways before training camp.
That includes Saints quarterback Derek Carr, who is representing New Orleans for the second straight year at the tourney.
On day one in California, Carr shot 8 over, which has him tied for 25th. Carr won't have to go far for training camp as he plans to spend the last week in Los Angeles before camp begins in Irvine.
For Carr, his favorite part of the ACC tourney is quality time.
"Well my favorite thing is just getting to spend time with family," Carr said. "The beginning of this week is always crazy for me because I'm scrambling all my workouts in, my throwing sessions, my conditioning, all that."
After playing the golf round in the morning, he goes on the beach to play with his kids in the afternoon.
"That way I could just have this time, you know, with my family...throw the football around just to spend time with them because camp's around the corner."
Saints training camp begins in Irvine, California on Jul. 24.
