Tulane will hold a press conference Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Jill H. and Avram A. Glazer Family Club. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and fans are welcome to attend.

NEW ORLEANS — Tulane women's basketball head coach Lisa Stockton announced her retirement from the Green Wave after her 30-year career as the team's lead coach, the university announced Tuesday.

As one of the longest-serving coaches in NCAA history, Stockton is recognized as the "all-time winningest women’s basketball coach in the state of Louisiana and the newest inductee to the Conference USA Hall of Fame," Tulane stated.

The 30-year veteran of Division I head coaching ranks her as one of the most respected names in college basketball with 591 victories putting her at No.14 among all active Division I coaches this season. Stockton ranks No. 27 with 654 overall wins on NCAA's all-time active wins list, Tulane said in her retirement announcement.

Heading into this season, Stockton was one of two active coaches to take "one of U.S. News & World Report’s Top 40 academic institutions to at least 11 NCAA Tournaments." She was named Louisiana's Coach of the Year twice by the Guildford County Sports Hall of Fame.

Since Tulane's first season in 1975, she coached eight players and one team to Tulane's Hall of Fame, including five WNBA players.

“I came to New Orleans for a job but found a home and a perfect fit with a university that values athletics and academics at the highest level," Stockton said. "I am so proud of the accomplishments that we have achieved on the court; however, it is the relationships with the players, coaches, and staff that I will cherish the most.”

Born in Greensboro, N.C., Stockton earned several accolades for her incredible coaching. In 2022, she was named one of the "25 most influential women in Louisiana sports history" by The Advocate, and "100 Most Impactful People nationally across the sport of women’s college basketball" by Silver Waves Media.

Stockton also served as a member of the NCAA Women's Basketball Issues Committee and on its Academic Subcommittee.

"Since arriving in 1994, Tulane and New Orleans have become my family and my home. I have loved every moment of this amazing journey, but I have reached the finish line of my coaching career, and I am ready for my next chapter," Stockton said.

Tulane will hold a press conference Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Jill H. and Avram A. Glazer Family Club. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and fans are welcome to attend.

Free parking will be available in the Claiborne Lot and an ADA shuttle will run from 12:30 p.m. through the end of the event.
