BATON ROUGE, La. — Second-year LSU men's basketball head coach Matt McMahon announced the suspension of guard Jalen Cook during his weekly press conference in Baton Rouge, La., on Monday.
The Baton Rouge-area native and Walker High School standout, transferred from Tulane back to LSU last spring. Cook led the Green Wave in scoring each of his two seasons in Uptown New Orleans.
According to McMahon, Cook did not join the Tigers' 75-61 win at Vanderbilt (8-21) due to being suspended from the team for "failure to meet the standards that I have in place for the program."
When asked if Cook would be allowed to return to the program with two regular-season games and the Southeastern Conference tournament left this season, McMahon said, "We'll evaluate it day-to-day moving forward."
Cook, who missed five of seven games with what was described as a lower leg issue before being suspended, missed the first 10 games of the season due to being a two-time transfer.
After being ruled eligible in December, Cook played in 13 games where he averaged 15.6 points per game.
