BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU's defending national champion women's basketball team has made it to the Sweet Sixteen and will face the UCLA Bruins Saturday in Albany, New York.
While there have been some upsets on the women's side, 11 of the top 12 seeds remain. LSU, a three seed, will take on UCLA, a number two seed.
The Tigers managed to claw their way past Rice in the opening round and looked like they were in for similar treatment in the second round, when they turned it on in the second half, crushing MTSU with a 51-15 finish to the game.
That Tigers team would be a tough out for any one.
Where to Watch
ESPN and ABC have the rights to all of the women's games and it has become so popular that LSU and UCLA will be on ABC this coming Saturday at noon.
ESPN also has to be drooling over the prospect of a rematch of last year's championship game between Iowa and Caitlin Clark and LSU. Both teams though will have tough matches this weekend with LSU facing the Bruins and Iowa taking on Colorado, the team that started its season with a dominant win over LSU.
Also this week, Tiger fans and fans of women's basketball in general will be on the lookout for an anticipated Washington Post article on head coach Kim Mulkey. The four-time national championship coach gave a fiery oration between games 1 and 2 about what she figures will be a "hatchet job." It included a threat to sue if she deems the story to be false.
